Continuing the European dialogue on EdTech testbeds

On 9 September, Malmö became the meeting ground for the Second European Conversation on Testbeds, hosted by Ifous, EmpowerED, and GETN. Building on the momentum of the first conversation, this gathering brought together (future) testbed leaders, EdTech innovators, and ecosystem stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and continue shaping a collaborative European community around educational testing environments.
Through interactive sessions and conversations throughout the day, participants identified the challenges faced across Europe’s testbeds:
- Lack of sustainable and long-term funding for testbeds
- Navigating diverse education systems and testbed approaches
- Balancing pedagogy and commercial viability
- No blueprint or framework for supporting the design of testbeds
- Difficulty in defining clear value propositions to attract funders
To address some of these issues, the EmpowerED consortium is preparing a comprehensive set of guidelines, to be published in January 2026, to provide guidance for the creation of sustainable testbedding environments. Stay tuned and, until then, read more about the outcomes of the Malmö event.
