Public Private Partnerships in EdTech and education
Even though Public-Private Partnerships are not a new concept and are successfully implemented in other sectors, the education and EdTech context provides unique challenges and requires the development of new approaches. Due to the diversity of involved stakeholders, building trust and creating opportunities for fruitful dialogue is key.
To gather insights regarding the impact of corporate involvement in education, EmpowerED hosted a parallel session on ‘Public Private Partnerships’, within the School Innovation Forum 2024. The session brought together high-level experts from both worlds and allowed complex conversations to happen organically, face-to-face around the table.
A key outcome of the session is the need to build bilateral trust, by ensuring both parties understand each other’s ‘language’, interests and constraints, to develop a common set of values and a common vision for success. This is complicated by a multi-layered structure within both the public and private sectors. Therefore, the creation of a modular framework that can accommodate varied stakeholder combinations is necessary to ensure an aligned approach within each country and across Europe.
Moreover, bringing together stakeholders from these two worlds in different types of settings is necessary to allow for fruitful dialogue to take place. Following up on those discussions, however, needs to be coordinated so that actionable next steps can gradually take place. EmpowerED project aims to facilitate this process by fostering on-going dialogue, creating opportunities for such stakeholders to meet and identifying interventions that would be beneficial to the ecosystem.
You can read more about these insights in the Discussion Summary of the School Innovation Forum Parallel sessions. These results, alongside further discussions, will be contextualized within EmpowerED's reporting on the new iteration of the State of Play of the European EdTech Ecosystem, which will be coming out at the end of 2024.
We would like to extend special thanks to our esteemed invited speaker, Zelda Gerard-Besset (CNIL, France) who framed and guided the discussion, and our very own Donatella Solda (Future Education Modena), who moderated the session. And, of course, to the more than 60 participants who offered their knowledge and insights.
